Aquamacs is a port of Emacs that runs in the Mac UI layer.
The daily script removes old log files, "scratch" and "junk" files, backs-up the NetInfo database (Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger® and earlier), reports a variety of system and network statistics, and rotates the file. Under Tiger, the daily script also cleans up scratch fax files and prunes , the log file for the then-new Apple System Logging facility. Under Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard®, the daily script also prunes the file that replaced the file for Apple System Logging.
weekly runs once a week, rebuilds a couple of databases.
What else can you do to tinker around on your Mac?
Command line tools (e.g. ls, mv, tar) have varying levels of support for HFS+ resource forks and metadata, so it pays to be careful when working with Mac files from the command line.
Wipe hard drive and user cache files.

Clear browser caches Just as last year when we were doing the clean instal of High Sierra, you don’t need a backup for this option, it’s safer and faster than the previous way but only available to you if you have an extra drive or your drive is broken down into volumes. When all of the extra files are gone and all you’ve got left on drive is what you actually need, time to back it all up. Use Get Backup Pro for the job. It’s better than Apple’s native Time Machine. Also, move your photos and document into the cloud (iCloud, Dropbox, whatever your choice is) or to an external drive, like a USB stick. If your drive needs to be defragmented, the "only" hard drive defragmentation utility that I recommend is iDefrag. (See my comments about other hard drive defragmentation utilities in Note 1. below) It is the only one that I know of that can optimize the files on your hard drive in a totally OS X-savvy way. OS X has a journal, a hot band, virtual memory, metadata, etc. to keep track of. It is very important that these things be located properly on the disk or performance will be compromised. Rootfool, gdbinit Great App. Just what I was looking for. Easy to use for the non tech head. Clear system caches Cleaning Log Files – Macs collect a huge number of logs. The following tools can clean differents kinds of those:
